tBTC is a web3 protocol centered around the TBTC token. Existing Bitcoin bridge solutions often rely on centralized custodians. In those systems, users must send their Bitcoin to an intermediary in exchange for a token equivalent that represents the original asset. This model introduces trust assumptions, exposes users to counterparty and censorship risks, and ultimately undermines Bitcoin’s purpose as a sovereign, secure, and permissionless digital asset.
