No. Reddit is ending public API access, but registered apps and bots can migrate to its Developer Platform.

Orbitrum Investor Impact

Why does the public API cutoff matter for Reddit investors?

The change gives Reddit more control over commercial access to its conversation data and could support paid data licensing. Reddit has not disclosed how much additional revenue the cutoff is expected to generate.

How large is Reddit's non-advertising revenue today?

Reddit reported $43 million of Q2 2026 other revenue, up 24% year over year, compared with $805 million of total revenue and $762 million of advertising revenue.

Could the API changes affect Reddit stock?

They could strengthen Reddit's data-licensing investment case if more commercial users pay for access, but the announcement does not guarantee additional revenue. Restricting legacy access also creates migration and developer-ecosystem execution risks.

What happens before the public API closes?

Reddit will stop accepting new public API access requests after October 31, 2026 and begin removing access for unregistered or unresponsive apps on January 12, 2027, before remaining public access ends in March 2027.
