What was exploited?

The attacker exploited a bug in the interaction between Omni's deposit-and-withdrawal infrastructure and the NEAR Intents smart contract. NEAR co-founder Illia Polosukhin said the affected asset and network were limited to USDT on BSC.

Are affected users being reimbursed?

Yes. NEAR Intents committed to compensating affected users in full, but the verified sources do not state when reimbursement will be completed or how it will be funded.

Why does the exploit matter for NEAR Intents?

It compromised cross-chain infrastructure at a service Polosukhin said handles more than $4 billion in monthly trading and payments volume. No verified source quantified a longer-term effect on volume or revenue.

Has NEAR Intents identified the attacker?

Yes. On October 2, general manager Alex Shevchenko said the team had identified the individual and gave them 48 hours to return the funds under responsible disclosure.

What happens next?

NEAR Intents is pursuing recovery of the stolen funds and said it would publish a postmortem, while reimbursement completion and full restoration of restricted connections remain unresolved.
